v0.2.0
v0.2.0 — Google Docs, Smarter Saving, and More
May 22, 2026
A big update for our beta testers. This release brings Google Docs integration, a much-improved file saving experience, and a handful of polish across the editor.
Google Docs integration
You can now move your manuscript between Scriblit and Google Docs without any copy-pasting.
- Export to Google Docs — share a draft directly to your Google Drive from Export → Google Docs. You'll get a shareable link right away.
- Import from Google Docs — browse your recent docs, search by title, or paste a document link to pull material straight into Scriblit.
Smarter file saving
- Chrome / Edge / Brave — choose exactly where exported files are saved, with your preferred folder remembered between sessions.
- Safari / Firefox — set the filename before downloading; no more generic filenames.
After a successful export, a notification tells you where the file landed.
Word count warning
Turn on the word count warning in Preferences and set a threshold. Once your manuscript crosses it, the word count in the toolbar turns red. The default is 600 words — adjust it to whatever makes sense for your story.
Word count for selected text
Highlight any passage and a small tooltip shows the word count for just that selection — useful for checking scene length or trimming to fit a submission guideline.
Other improvements suggested our users
- Title and byline are now always centered in the editor, exactly as they appear in a finished manuscript.
- Menu bar and keyboard shortcuts — the web app menu bar now shows keyboard shortcuts next to each option. Notable additions: Ctrl+S / Cmd+S (Save) and Ctrl+Shift+S / Cmd+Shift+S (Save As).
- Spread dividers — cursor placement after moving a divider is fixed; spacing updated ; blank line in Word exports near dividers is resolved; empty spreads and the final spread are now visually marked.
- Preferences — keyboard navigation (Tab, Enter, Escape) and screen reader labels are now properly supported.
Bug fixes
- Several editor glitches introduced in the previous release have been corrected.
